Come and Celebrate!!! The 100th Birthday of our 1913 Casavant Pipe Organ
St. Ann’s Chapel
Join us for an afternoon of music, behind-the-scene tours, and even birthday cake ó and a chance to hand pump the bellows!
St. Annís Academyís historic Casavant Pipe Organ is turning 100 this year, come and visit for an afternoon of special events.
Learn about the FrŤres Casavant of St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, builders of this historic pipe organ, designed for the Sisters of St. Ann Chapel in 1913. Although originally built with an electric air system, the handle awaits those that think they are strong enough to hand-pump the bellows!
Local experts Grant Smalley and David Vuckson will be on hand with slides and an up-close look at this historic harmonium. As well as an information talk and concert, we will have displays, refreshments and a piece of birthday cake for all, as we honour this instrumentís 100th year.
St. Ann's Academy will be decked out for the holidays - indoors and out!
Starting on November 28, the Chapel will be traditionally decorated with the beautiful Nativity oil painting created in 1900 by Sister Mary Osithe. The Nativity Scene features a rare wax figurine baby Jesus, dating from the late 19th century, heritage linens on the altar and a cascade of red poinsettias.
“The Giving Tree” will be on display in the Sisters' Parlour. Drop by with non-perishable food items, unwrapped toys or new and gently used clothing to place under the tree, for distribution to local charities until Dec. 22.
